I will turn my ear to a proverb; with the harp I will expound my riddle:
I will open my mouth with a parable; I will utter hidden things, things from of old –
The disciples came to him and asked, ‘Why do you speak to the people in parables?’
Then he told them many things in parables, saying: ‘A farmer went out to sow his seed.
When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching,
Jesus then left that place and went into the region of Judea and across the Jordan. Again crowds of people came to him, and as was his custom, he taught them.
Jesus then began to speak to them in parables: ‘A man planted a vineyard. He put a wall round it, dug a pit for the winepress and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place.
As he taught, Jesus said, ‘Watch out for the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and be greeted with respect in the market-places,
So Jesus called them over to him and began to speak to them in parables: ‘How can Satan drive out Satan?
He told them, ‘The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those on the outside everything is said in parables
Meanwhile, the high priest questioned Jesus about his disciples and his teaching.
