Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David.


For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.’


While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, ‘This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!’


He replied, ‘Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.’


‘If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters – yes, even their own life – such a person cannot be my disciple.


They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When the flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.


Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away.


Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.’ When he said this, he called out, ‘Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.’


My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.


Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.


As you come to him, the living Stone – rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him –


Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble,


If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who does what is right has been born of him.


Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous.
