‘A son honours his father, and a slave his master. If I am a father, where is the honour due to me? If I am a master, where is the respect due to me?’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘It is you priests who show contempt for my name. ‘But you ask, “How have we shown contempt for your name?”


‘Later the others also came. “Lord, Lord,” they said, “open the door for us!”


‘Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. “Master,” he said, “I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed.


‘They also will answer, “Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or ill or in prison, and did not help you?”


Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.


Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
