Lot looked around and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan towards Zoar was well watered, like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt. (This was before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.)


So Abram said to Lot, ‘Let’s not have any quarrelling between you and me, or between your herdsmen and mine, for we are close relatives.


And Abimelek said, ‘My land is before you; live wherever you like.’


You can settle among us; the land is open to you. Live in it, trade in it, and acquire property in it.’


I am for peace; but when I speak, they are for war.


But today I am freeing you from the chains on your wrists. Come with me to Babylon, if you like, and I will look after you; but if you do not want to, then don’t come. Look, the whole country lies before you; go wherever you please.’


If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no-one will see the Lord.
