and have done ever since the time I appointed leaders over my people Israel. I will also give you rest from all your enemies. ‘ “The Lord declares to you that the Lord himself will establish a house for you:


He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever.


If you do whatever I command you and walk in obedience to me and do what is right in my eyes by obeying my decrees and commands, as David my servant did, I will be with you. I will build you a dynasty as enduring as the one I built for David and will give Israel to you.


You, Lord, hear the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry,


Sacrifice and offering you did not desire – but my ears you have opened – burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require.


And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own.


I thought I should bring the matter to your attention and suggest that you buy it in the presence of these seated here and in the presence of the elders of my people. If you will redeem it, do so. But if you will not, tell me, so I will know. For no-one has the right to do it except you, and I am next in line.’ ‘I will redeem it,’ he said.


I will raise up for myself a faithful priest, who will do according to what is in my heart and mind. I will firmly establish his priestly house, and they will minister before my anointed one always.


Now the day before Saul came, the Lord had revealed this to Samuel:
