Ya`akov sent messengers in front of him to Esav, his brother, to the land of Se`ir, the field of Edom.


Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Chorev. You shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.* Moshe did so in the sight of the elders of Yisra'el.


Now Moshe was keeping the flock of Yitro, his father-in-law, the Kohen of Midyan, and he led the flock to the back of the wilderness, and came to God's mountain, to Chorev.


*'If you offer a meal offering of first fruits to the LORD, you shall offer for the meal offering of your first fruits grain in the ear parched with fire, bruised grain of the fresh ear.


Moshe and Aharon went into the Tent of Meeting, and came out, and blessed the people: and the glory of the LORD appeared to all the people.


They went and came to Moshe, and to Aharon, and to all the congregation of the children of Yisra'el, to the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word to them, and to all the congregation, and shown them the fruit of the land.


Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadesh-Barnea to see the land.


We traveled from Chorev, and went through all that great and terrible wilderness which you saw, by the way to the hill country of the Amori, as the LORD our God commanded us; and we came to Kadesh-Barnea.


The Amori, who lived in that hill country, came out against you, and chased you, as bees do, and beat you down in Se`ir, even to Chormah.


Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way to the Sea of Suf, as the LORD spoke to me; and we compassed Mount Se`ir many days.


Command you the people, saying, You are to pass through the border of your brothers the children of Esav, who dwell in Se`ir; and they will be afraid of you: take good heed to yourselves therefore;


So we passed by from our brothers the children of Esav, who dwell in Se`ir, from the way of the `Aravah from Elat and from `Etzyon-Gever. We turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Mo'av.


When the LORD sent you from Kadesh-Barnea, saying, Go up and possess the land which I have given you; then you rebelled against the mitzvah of the LORD your God, and you didn't believe him, nor listen to his voice.


Then the children of Yehudah drew near to Yehoshua in Gilgal: and Kalev the son of Yefunneh the Kenizzi said to him, You know the thing that the LORD spoke to Moshe the man of God concerning me and concerning you in Kadesh-Barnea.
