So he departed there, and found Elisha the son of Shafat, who was plowing, with twelve yoke [of oxen] before him, and he with the twelfth: and Eliyahu passed over to him, and cast his mantle on him.


He arose, and ate and drink, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Chorev the Mount of God.


They made a calf in Chorev, and worshiped a molten image.


Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Chorev. You shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.* Moshe did so in the sight of the elders of Yisra'el.


Yitro, Moshe' father-in-law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for God. Aharon came with all of the elders of Yisra'el, to eat bread with Moshe' father-in-law before God.


and be ready against the third day; for on the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people on Mount Sinai.


When they had departed from Refidim, and had come to the wilderness of Sinai, they encamped in the wilderness; and there Yisra'el encamped before the mountain.


Moshe went up to God, and the LORD called to him out of the mountain, saying, *This is what you shall tell the house of Ya`akov, and tell the children of Yisra'el:


Now the Kohen of Midyan had seven daughters. They came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father's flock.


When they came to Re`u'el, their father, he said, *How is it that you have returned so early today?*


Moshe was content to dwell with the man. He gave Moshe Tzipporah, his daughter.


Moshe rose up with Yehoshua, his servant, and Moshe went up onto God's Mountain.


He said, *Certainly I will be with you. This will be the token to you, that I have sent you: when you have brought forth the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.*


He said, *Don't come close. Take your sandals off of your feet, for the place you are standing on is holy ground.*


The children of Yisra'el stripped themselves of their jewelry from Mount Chorev onward.


Moshe went and returned to Yitro his father-in-law, and said to him, *Please let me go and return to my brothers who are in Egypt, and see whether they are still alive.* Yitro said to Moshe, *Go in peace.*


The LORD said to Aharon, *Go into the wilderness to meet Moshe.* He went, and met him on God's mountain, and kissed him.


The words of `Amos, who was among the herdsmen of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Yisra'el in the days of `Uzziyah king of Yehudah, and in the days of Yarov`am the son of Yo'ash king of Yisra'el, two years before the earthquake.


*Remember the Torah of Moshe my servant, which I commanded to him in Chorev for all Yisra'el, even statutes and ordinances.


Moshe said to Chovav, the son of Re`u'el the Midyanite, Moshe' father-in-law, We are journeying to the place of which the LORD said, I will give it you: come you with us, and we will do you good; for the LORD has spoken good concerning Yisra'el.


They set forward from the Mount of the LORD three days' journey; and the ark of the covenant of the LORD went before them three days' journey, to seek out a resting place for them.


There were shepherds in the same country staying in the field, and keeping watch by night over their flock.


*When forty years were fulfilled, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, in a flame of fire in a bush.


It is eleven days' [journey] from Chorev by the way of Mount Se`ir to Kadesh-Barnea.


The LORD our God spoke to us in Chorev, saying, You have lived long enough in this mountain:


the day that you stood before the LORD your God in Chorev, when the LORD said to me, Assemble me the people, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children.


Now Chever the Keni had separated himself from the Kinim, even from the children of Chovav the brother-in-law of Moshe, and had pitched his tent as far as the oak in Tza`anannim, which is by Kedesh.


Shemu'el said to Yishai, Are here all your children? He said, There remains yet the youngest, and behold, he is keeping the sheep. Shemu'el said to Yishai, Send and get him; for we will not sit down until he come here.
