Yosef was thirty years old when he stood before Par`oh king of Egypt. Yosef went out from the presence of Par`oh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.


Eliyahu the Tishbi, who was of the foreigners of Gil`ad, said to Ach'av, As the LORD, the God of Yisra'el, lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.


Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve kings. He won't serve obscure men.


Therefore thus says the LORD, If you return, then will I bring you again, that you may stand before me; and if you take forth the precious from the vile, you shall be as my mouth: they shall return to you, but you shall not return to them.


At the end of the days which the king had appointed for bringing them in, the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nevukhadnetzar 1.


youths in whom was no blemish, but well-favored, and skillful in all wisdom, and endowed with knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability to stand in the king's palace; and that he should teach them the learning and the language of the Kasdim.


The king appointed for them a daily portion of the king's dainties, and of the wine which he drank, and that they should be nourished three years; that at the end of it they should stand before the king.


Now among these were, of the children of Yehudah, Daniyel, Chananyah, Misha'el, and `Azaryah.


The prince of the eunuchs gave names to them: to Daniyel he gave [the name of] Belteshatzar; and to Chananyah, [of] Shadrakh; and to Misha'el, [of] Meshakh; and to `Azaryah, [of] `Aved-Nego.


So the decree went forth, and the wise men were to be slain; and they sought Daniyel and his companions to be slain.


Therefore I make a decree, that every people, nation, and language, which speak anything evil against the God of Shadrakh, Meshakh, and `Aved-Nego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill; because there is no other god who is able to deliver after this sort.
