“I baptize {\cf2\super [41]} you with water to show that you changed your hearts and lives. But there is a person coming later that is greater than I am. I am not good enough to take off his shoes for him. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit {\cf2\super [42]} and with fire.


But John tried to say that he was not good enough to baptize Jesus. John said, “Why do you come to me to be baptized? I should be baptized by you!”


John wore clothes made from camel’s hair. John had a leather belt around his waist. He ate locusts {\cf2\super [6]} and wild honey.


I baptize you with water. But that person who is coming will baptize you with the Holy Spirit. {\cf2\super [7]} ”


John answered everyone, “I baptize {\cf2\super [54]} you in water, but there is a person coming later who can do more than I can. I am not good enough to untie his shoes for him. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit {\cf2\super [55]} and with fire.


That person is the One who comes after me. I am not good enough to untie the strings on his shoes.”


When John was finishing his work, he said, ‘Who do you think I am? I am not the Christ. {\cf2\super [266]} He is coming later. I am not worthy to untie his shoes.’


Paul said, “John told people to be baptized {\cf2\super [379]} to show they wanted to change their lives. John told people to believe in the One who would come after him. That person is Jesus.”
