The Pharisees {\cf2\super [169]} heard the people saying this. The Pharisees said, “This man uses the power of Beelzebul (the devil) to force demons {\cf2\super [170]} out of people. Beelzebul is the ruler of demons.”
But the Pharisees {\cf2\super [116]} said, “The leader of demons {\cf2\super [117]} (the devil) is the one that gives him (Jesus) power to force demons out.”
Jesus said this because the teachers of the law said that Jesus had an evil spirit (devil) inside him.
Many of these Jews said, “A demon {\cf2\super [163]} has come into him and made him crazy. Why listen to him?”
The Jews answered, “We say you are a Samaritan. {\cf2\super [140]} We say a demon {\cf2\super [141]} is making you crazy! Are we not right when we say these things?”
Jesus answered, “I have no demon {\cf2\super [142]} in me. I give honor to my Father. But you give no honor to me.
The Jews said to Jesus, “Now we know that you have a demon {\cf2\super [143]} in you! Even Abraham {\cf2\super [144]} and the prophets {\cf2\super [145]} died. But you say, ‘The person that obeys my teaching will never die.’
While Paul was saying these things to defend himself, Festus shouted, “Paul, you are crazy! Too much study has made you crazy!”
