Jacob became angry with Rachel. He said, “I am not God. God is the One who has caused you to not have children.”
Now, don’t be worried. Don’t be angry with yourselves for what you did. It was God’s plan for me to come here. I am here to save your life.
His brothers went to him and bowed down in front of him. They said, “We will be your servants.”
It is true that you planned to do something bad to me. But really, God was planning good things. God’s plan was to use me to save the lives of many people. And that is what happened!
When the king of Israel had read the letter, he tore his clothes {to show he was sad and upset}. The king of Israel said, “Am I God? No! I don’t have the power over life and death. My friends, don’t try to punish people when they do wrong to you. Wait for God to punish them with his anger. It is written: “I am the One who punishes; I will pay people back,” {\cf2\super [132]} says the Lord.
I will punish them for the bad things they did. But I am saving that punishment for when they slip and do bad things. Their time of trouble is near. Their punishment will come quickly.’
We know that God said, “I will punish people \{for the wrong things they do\}; I will repay them.” {\cf2\super [139]} And God also said, “The Lord will judge his people.” {\cf2\super [140]}
