“If one of my people is poor, and you lend him money, then you must not charge him for that money. And you must not force him to pay you quickly.


A slave does not stay with a family forever. But a son belongs to the family forever.


When we have the opportunity to do good to any person, we should do it. But we should give special attention to the people that are in the family of believers (the church).


This is the way you must do this: Every person that has lent money to another Israelite must cancel that debt. He should not ask a brother (an Israelite) to pay back that debt. Why? Because the Lord said to cancel debts during that year.


You may charge interest to a foreigner. But you must not charge interest to another Israelite. If you follow these rules, then the Lord your God will bless you in everything you do in the land where you are going to live.


“When you make a promise to the Lord your God, don’t be slow to pay all that you promised. Why? Because the Lord your God will demand that you pay it. You will sin if you don’t pay the things you promised.
