And when he had seen him, he said: Art thou he that troublest Israel?


Then they cried to the Lord in their affliction: and he delivered them out of their distresses.


They that go down to the sea in ships, doing business in the great waters:


Lord, let thy hand be exalted, and let them not see: let the envious people see, and be confounded: and let fire devour thy enemies.


And the princes said to the king: We beseech thee that this man may be put to death: for on purpose he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city and the hands of the people, speaking to them according to these words. For this man seeketh not peace to this people, but evil.


But Baruch the son of Nerias setteth thee on against us, to deliver us into the hands of the Chaldeans, to kill us and to cause us to be carried away captives to Babylon.


And Amasias the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying: Amos hath rebelled against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.


And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron, saying:


Blessed are ye when they shall revile you, and persecute you, and speak all that is evil against you, untruly, for my sake:


Men of Israel, help: This is the man that teacheth all men every where against the people, and the law, and this place; and moreover hath brought in Gentiles into the temple, and hath violated this holy place.


Saying: Commanding we commanded you, that you should not teach in this name; and behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and you have a mind to bring the blood of this man upon us.


Neither do you murmur: as some of them murmured, and were destroyed by the destroyer.


By honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report; as deceivers, and yet true; as unknown, and yet known;


These are murmurers, full of complaints, walking according to their own desires, and their mouth speaketh proud things, admiring persons for gain's sake.
