Proverbs 29:18

For the Lord humbled Judah because of King Ahaz of Judah,  who threw off restraint in Judah and was unfaithful to the Lord.


Moses saw that the people were out of control, for Aaron had let them get out of control, making them a laughing-stock to their enemies.


The one who keeps commands preserves himself; one who disregards  his ways will die.


A servant cannot be disciplined by words; though he understands, he doesn’t respond.


‘And now, sons, listen to me; those who keep my ways are happy.


My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I will reject you  from serving as my priest. Since you have forgotten the law of your God, I will also forget your sons.


When he saw the crowds, he felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dejected,  like sheep without a shepherd.


He said, ‘Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God   and keep it.’


If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.


But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer who works #– #this person will be blessed in what he does.


‘Blessed   are those who wash their robes,   so that they may have the right to the tree of life and may enter the city by the gates.


The boy Samuel served the Lord in Eli’s presence.  In those days the word of the Lord was rare and prophetic visions were not widespread.
