Let his own eyes see his demise; let him drink from the Almighty’s wrath!


But I, the Lord, will speak whatever message I will speak, and it will be done.  It will no longer be delayed.  For in your days, rebellious house, I will speak a message and bring it to pass. This is the declaration of the Lord God.” ’


Now the people began complaining openly before  the Lord about hardship. When the Lord heard, his anger burned,  and fire  from the Lord blazed among them and consumed the outskirts of the camp.


All the Israelites complained about Moses and Aaron,  and the whole community told them, ‘If only we had died in the land of Egypt, or if only we had died in this wilderness!


Yet as I live and as the whole earth is filled with the Lord’s glory,


will ever see the land I swore to give their ancestors.  None of those who have despised me  will see it.


When Moses reported these words to all the Israelites, the people were overcome with grief.


“Because they did not remain loyal to me,  none of the men twenty years old or more who came up from Egypt will see the land I swore to give Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob   #– #


‘When the Lord heard your  words, he grew angry and swore an oath:


“None of these men in this evil generation will see the good land I swore to give your ancestors,


The time we spent travelling from Kadesh-barnea until we crossed the Zered Valley was thirty-eight years until the entire generation of fighting men had perished from the camp, as the Lord had sworn to them.


Indeed, the Lord’s hand was against them, to eliminate  them from the camp until they had all perished.


I raise my hand to heaven and declare: As surely as I live for ever,


With whom was God angry for forty years? Wasn’t it with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?
