One basket contained very good figs, like early figs,  but the other basket contained very bad figs, so bad that they were inedible.


‘Look, I’m sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.


‘Who then is a faithful and wise servant,   whom his master has put in charge of his household, to give them food at the proper time?


When the foolish took their lamps, they didn’t take oil with them;


but the wise ones took oil in their flasks with their lamps.


‘The wise ones answered, “No, there won’t be enough for us and for you. Go instead to those who sell oil, and buy some for yourselves.”


They went out from us, but they did not belong to us; for if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us. However, they went out so that it might be made clear that none of them belongs to us.


Now I want to remind you, although you came to know all these things once and for all, that Jesus  saved a people out of Egypt and later destroyed those who did not believe;
