‘I baptise you with  water for repentance,  but the one who is coming after me is more powerful than I. I am not worthy to remove  his sandals. He himself will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire.


John answered them all,  ‘I baptise you with water, but one who is more powerful than I am is coming. I am not worthy to untie the strap of his sandals. He will baptise you with  the Holy Spirit and fire.


(John testified concerning him and exclaimed, ‘This was the one of whom I said, “The one coming after me  ranks ahead of me,  because he existed before me.” ’)


He is the one coming after me,  , whose sandal strap I’m not worthy to untie.’


I didn’t know him,  but I came baptising with water so that he might be revealed  to Israel.’


Many came to him  and said, ‘John never did a sign, but everything John said about this man was true.’
