The strong one will become tinder, and his work a spark; both will burn together, with no one to extinguish the flames.


It will never be inhabited or lived in from generation to generation; a nomad will not pitch his tent there, and shepherds will not let their flocks rest there.


Look, the Lord is stripping the earth bare and making it desolate. He will twist its surface and scatter its inhabitants:


He has cast the lot for them; his hand allotted their portion with a measuring line. They will possess it for ever; they will dwell in it from generation to generation.


‘As they leave, they will see the dead bodies of those who have rebelled against me;  for their worm  will never die, their fire will never go out,  and they will be a horror to all humanity.’


As when Sodom and Gomorrah were overthrown along with their neighbours,’  says the Lord, ‘no one will live there; no human being will stay in it even temporarily.


Therefore, this is what the Lord God says: ‘Look, my anger #– #my burning wrath #– #is about to be poured out on this place,  on people and animals, on the tree of the field, and on the produce of the land. My wrath will burn and not be quenched.’


No human foot will pass through it, and no animal foot will pass through it.  It will be uninhabited for forty years.


Desolation, decimation, devastation! Hearts melt, knees tremble, insides churn, every face grows pale!


as they watched the smoke from her burning and kept crying out, ‘Who was like the great city? ’


A second time they said, Hallelujah! Her smoke ascends for ever and ever!
