‘What can we say to my lord? ’ Judah replied. ‘How can we plead? How can we justify ourselves? God has exposed your servants’ iniquity. We are now my lord’s slaves #– #both we and the one in whose possession the cup was found.’


you gave through your servants the prophets, saying, ‘The land you are entering to possess is an impure land. The surrounding peoples have filled it from end to end with their uncleanness by their impurity and detestable practices.


Though we are slaves,  our God has not abandoned us in our slavery. He has extended grace to us in the presence of the Persian kings,  giving us relief, so that we can rebuild the house of our God and repair its ruins,  to give us a wall in Judah and Jerusalem.


You were patient with them for many years, and your Spirit warned them through your prophets, but they would not listen. Therefore, you handed them over to the surrounding peoples.


Our kings, leaders, priests, and ancestors did not obey your law or listen to your commands and warnings you gave them.


Because of the Lord’s faithful love we do not perish, for his mercies never end.


Now we know that whatever the law says,  it speaks to those who are subject to the law,  , so that every mouth may be shut and the whole world may become subject to God’s judgement.  ,


What can I say, Lord, now that Israel has turned its back and run from its enemies?
