Manasseh also shed so much innocent blood that he filled Jerusalem with it from one end to another.  This was in addition to his sin that he caused Judah to commit, so that they did what was evil in the Lord’s sight.

He did what was evil in the Lord’s sight, imitating the detestable practices of the nations that the Lord had dispossessed before the Israelites.

The Israelites who had returned from exile  ate it, together with all who had separated themselves from the uncleanness of the Gentiles of the land  , in order to worship the Lord, the God of Israel.

After these things had been done, the leaders approached me and said, ‘The people of Israel, the priests, and the Levites have not separated themselves  from the surrounding peoples whose detestable practices  are like those of the Canaanites, Hethites, Perizzites, Jebusites, Ammonites, Moabites, Egyptians, and Amorites.

Now, our God, what can we say in light of  this? For we have abandoned the commands

and by listening to the words of my servants the prophets   #– #whom I have been sending to you time and time again,  , though you did not listen #– #

So then, dear friends, since we have these promises,  let us cleanse ourselves from every impurity of the flesh and spirit,  bringing holiness to completion  in the fear of God.

You must not do the same to the Lord your God, because they practise every detestable act, which the Lord hates, for their gods. They even burn their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods.

Everyone who does these acts is detestable to the Lord, and the Lord your God is driving out the nations before you because of these detestable acts.
