Moses entered the cloud as he went up the mountain, and he remained on the mountain for forty days and forty nights.


So the Lord relented  concerning the disaster he had said he would bring on his people.


The Lord answered Moses, ‘I will do this very thing you have asked, for you have found favour with me, and I know you by name.’


Moses was there with the Lord for forty days and forty nights; he did not eat food or drink water. He wrote the Ten Commandments,  the words of the covenant, on the tablets.


‘He saved others, but he cannot save himself! He is the King of Israel!  Let him  come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him.


Then the Lord said to me, “Get up. Continue your journey ahead of the people, so that they may enter and possess the land I swore to give their ancestors.”


‘I fell down in the presence of the Lord for forty days and forty nights because the Lord had threatened to destroy you.
