My people who have been crushed on the threshing-floor, I have declared to you what I have heard from the Lord of Armies, the God of Israel.
For this is what the Lord said to me: As a lion or young lion growls over its prey when a band of shepherds is called out against it, and it is not terrified by their shouting or subdued by their noise, so the Lord of Armies will come down to fight on Mount Zion and on its hill.
I say, ‘I won’t mention him or speak any longer in his name.’ But his message becomes a fire burning in my heart, shut up in my bones. I become tired of holding it in, and I cannot prevail.
Then Jeremiah said to all the officials and all the people, ‘The Lord sent me to prophesy all the words that you have heard against this temple and city.
‘In that day I will cause a horn to sprout for the house of Israel, and I will enable you to speak out among them. Then they will know that I am the Lord.’
He said: The Lord roars from Zion and makes his voice heard from Jerusalem; the pastures of the shepherds mourn, , and the summit of Carmel withers.
But you made the Nazirites drink wine and commanded the prophets, ‘Do not prophesy.’
Does a lion roar in the forest when it has no prey? Does a young lion growl from its lair unless it has captured something?
for we are unable to stop speaking about what we have seen and heard.’
‘Go and stand in the temple, and tell the people all about this life.’
Peter and the apostles replied, ‘We must obey God rather than people.
