he said, ‘Return to your homes with great wealth: a huge number of cattle, and silver, gold, bronze, iron, and a large quantity of clothing. Share the spoil of your enemies with your brothers.’
In addition, every man who was desperate, in debt, or discontented rallied around him, and he became their leader. About four hundred men were with him.
He said to his men, ‘All of you, put on your swords! ’ So each man put on his sword, and David also put on his sword. About four hundred men followed David while two hundred stayed with the supplies.
But David said, ‘My brothers, you must not do this with what the Lord has given us. He protected us and handed over to us the raiders who came against us.
And it has been so from that day forward. David established this policy as a law and an ordinance for Israel and it still continues today.
