So the king took counsel and made two calves of gold. He said to the people, “You have gone up to Jerusalem long enough. Here are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.”


Can you tie it in the furrow with ropes, or will it harrow the valleys after you?


Therefore says the Sovereign, the Lord of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel: Surely I will pour out my wrath on my enemies and avenge myself on my foes!


You have rejected me, says the Lord; you are going backward, so I have stretched out my hand against you and destroyed you— I am weary of relenting.


I am now sending for many fishermen, says the Lord, and they shall catch them, and afterward I will send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain and every hill and out of the clefts of the rocks.


Thus you shall say to Zedekiah: Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: I am going to turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands and with which you are fighting against the king of Babylon and against the Chaldeans who are besieging you outside the walls, and I will bring them together into the center of this city.


therefore, I will gather all your lovers with whom you took pleasure, all those you loved and all those you hated; I will gather them against you from all around and will uncover your nakedness to them so that they may see all your nakedness.


So I will satisfy my fury on you, and my jealousy shall turn away from you; I will be calm and will be angry no longer.


For thus says the Lord God: Bring up an assembly against them, and make them an object of terror and of plunder.


Therefore I delivered her into the hands of her lovers, into the hands of the Assyrians, for whom she lusted.


“My anger shall spend itself, and I will vent my fury on them and satisfy myself, and they shall know that I, the Lord, have spoken in my jealousy when I spend my fury on them.


Since the days of Gibeah you have sinned, O Israel; there they have continued. Shall not war overtake them in Gibeah?


A wind has wrapped them in its wings, and they shall be ashamed because of their altars.


And it shall be like people, like priest; I will punish them for their ways and repay them for their deeds.


Set the trumpet to your lips! One like a vulture is over the house of the Lord, because they have broken my covenant and transgressed my law.


Though they bargain with the nations, I will now gather them up. They shall soon writhe under the burden of kings and princes.


The king was enraged. He sent his troops, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.


And just as the Lord took delight in making you prosperous and numerous, so the Lord will take delight in bringing you to ruin and destruction; you shall be plucked off the land that you are entering to possess.
