43 But the people of Israel answered the people of Judah, “We have ten shares in the king, and in David also we have more than you. Why then did you despise us? Were we not the first to speak of bringing back our king?” But the words of the people of Judah were fiercer than the words of the people of Israel.

Amasa swayed the hearts of all the people of Judah as one, and they sent word to the king, “Return, both you and all your servants.”


All the people were disputing throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, “The king delivered us from the hand of our enemies and saved us from the hand of the Philistines, and now he has fled out of the land because of Absalom.


Now a scoundrel named Sheba son of Bichri, a Benjaminite, happened to be there. He sounded the trumpet and cried out, “We have no portion in David, no share in the son of Jesse! Everyone to your tents, O Israel!”


David said to Abishai, “Now Sheba son of Bichri will do us more harm than Absalom; take your lord’s servants and pursue him, or he will find fortified cities for himself and escape from us.”


Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and said, “Look, we are your bone and flesh.


When all Israel saw that the king would not listen to them, the people answered the king, “What share do we have in David? We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, O Israel! Look now to your own house, O David.” So Israel went away to their tents.


By insolence the empty-headed person makes strife, but wisdom is with those who take advice.


A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.


The beginning of strife is like letting out water, so stop before the quarrel breaks out.


An ally offended is stronger than a city; such quarreling is like the bars of a castle.


Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.


If, however, you bite and devour one another, take care that you are not consumed by one another.


idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, anger, quarrels, dissensions, factions,


Let us not become conceited, competing against one another, envying one another.


Do nothing from selfish ambition or empty conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves.


for human anger does not produce God’s righteousness.


Then the Ephraimites said to him, “What have you done to us, not to call us when you went to fight against the Midianites?” And they upbraided him violently.


But God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the lords of Shechem, and the lords of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech.
