The Lord said by his servants the prophets,


But they conspired against him, and by command of the king they stoned him to death in the court of the house of the Lord.


The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and the wise capture souls.


And when Jeremiah had finished speaking all that the Lord had commanded him to speak to all the people, then the priests and the prophets and all the people laid hold of him, saying, “You shall die!


And the king commanded Jerahmeel the king’s son and Seraiah son of Azriel and Shelemiah son of Abdeel to arrest the secretary Baruch and the prophet Jeremiah. But the Lord hid them.


When they persecute you in this town, flee to the next, for truly I tell you, you will not have finished going through all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.


And he said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like the master of a household who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.”


Thus you testify against yourselves that you are descendants of those who murdered the prophets.


and that repentance and forgiveness of sins is to be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.


They will put you out of the synagogues. Indeed, an hour is coming when those who kill you will think that by doing so they are offering worship to God.


Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.”


But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”


At that time prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch.


He had James, the brother of John, killed with the sword.


Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen a childhood friend of Herod the ruler, and Saul.


But Jews came there from Antioch and Iconium and won over the crowds. Then they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead.


Judas and Silas, who were themselves prophets, said much to encourage and strengthen the brothers and sisters.


and when they had called in the apostles, they had them flogged. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus and let them go.


Yet among the mature we do speak wisdom, though it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are being destroyed.


According to the grace of God given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building on it. Let each builder choose with care how to build on it.


It is he whom we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone in all wisdom, so that we may present everyone mature in Christ.

They were stoned to death; they were sawn in two; they were killed by the sword; they went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, persecuted, tormented—


and the inhabitants of the earth will gloat over them and celebrate and exchange presents, because these two prophets tormented the inhabitants of the earth.
