“As for me, in the first year of Darius the Mede, I stood up to support and strengthen him.

For this reason I send you prophets, sages, and scribes, some of whom you will kill and crucify, and some you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town,

For this reason the Wisdom of God said, ‘I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and persecute,’

When he came and saw the grace of God, he rejoiced, and he exhorted them all to remain faithful to the Lord with steadfast devotion,

At that time prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch.

Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen a childhood friend of Herod the ruler, and Saul.

There they strengthened the souls of the disciples and encouraged them to continue in the faith, saying, “It is through many persecutions that we must enter the kingdom of God.”

Then certain individuals came down from Judea and were teaching the brothers, “Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.”

Then the apostles and the elders, with the consent of the whole church, decided to choose men from among them and to send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. They sent Judas called Barsabbas, and Silas, leaders among the brothers,

We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who themselves will tell you the same things by word of mouth.

So they were sent on their way by the church, and as they passed through both Phoenicia and Samaria, they reported the conversion of the gentiles and brought great joy to all the brothers and sisters.

When they read it, they rejoiced at the exhortation.

He went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.

After spending some time there he departed and went from place to place through the region of Galatia and Phrygia, strengthening all the disciples.

And he testified with many other arguments and exhorted them, saying, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.”

When he had gone through those regions and had given them much encouragement, he came to Greece,

We have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us: prophecy, in proportion to faith;

the encourager, in encouragement; the giver, in sincerity; the leader, in diligence; the compassionate, in cheerfulness.

He will also strengthen you to the end, so that you may be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others weigh what is said.

But those who prophesy speak to other people for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation.

(and the spirits of prophets are subject to the prophets,

In former generations this mystery was not made known to humankind, as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit:

As you know, we dealt with each one of you like a father with his children,

and sent Timothy, our brother and God’s coworker in the gospel of Christ, to strengthen and encourage you for the sake of your faith,

Finally, brothers and sisters, we ask and urge you in the Lord Jesus that, as you learned from us how you ought to live and to please God (as, in fact, you are doing), you should do so more and more.

And we urge you, brothers and sisters, to admonish the idlers, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with all of them.

Now such persons we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living.

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone,

proclaim the message; be persistent whether the time is favorable or unfavorable; convince, rebuke, and encourage with the utmost patience in teaching.

Now as an elder myself and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as one who shares in the glory to be revealed, I exhort the elders among you

And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, support, strengthen, and establish you.

Through Silvanus, whom I consider a faithful brother, I have written this short letter to encourage you and to testify that this is the true grace of God. Stand fast in it.
