1 Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen a childhood friend of Herod the ruler, and Saul.

As they went out, they came upon a man from Cyrene named Simon; they compelled this man to carry his cross.


In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod was ruler of Galilee, and his brother Philip ruler of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias ruler of Abilene,


this they did, sending it to the elders by Barnabas and Saul.


Then after completing their mission Barnabas and Saul returned to Jerusalem and brought with them John, whose other name was Mark.


But Saul, also known as Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him


Judas and Silas, who were themselves prophets, said much to encourage and strengthen the brothers and sisters.


But Paul and Barnabas remained in Antioch, and there, with many others, they taught and proclaimed the word of the Lord.


When Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied;


He had four unmarried daughters who had the gift of prophecy.


There was a Levite from Cyprus, Joseph, to whom the apostles gave the name Barnabas (which means “son of encouragement”).


Meanwhile Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest


Timothy, my coworker, greets you; so do Lucius and Jason and Sosipater, my fellow Israelites.


Any man who prays or prophesies with something on his head shames his head,


And if I have prophetic powers and understand all mysteries and all knowledge and if I have all faith so as to remove mountains but do not have love, I am nothing.


Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end.


Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others weigh what is said.


(and the spirits of prophets are subject to the prophets,


Or is it only Barnabas and I who have no right to refrain from working for a living?


And the other Jews joined him in this hypocrisy, so that even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy.


and when James and Cephas and John, who were acknowledged pillars, recognized the grace that had been given to me, they gave to Barnabas and me the right hand of fellowship, agreeing that we should go to the gentiles and they to the circumcised.


He himself granted that some are apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers


All the saints greet you, especially those of the emperor’s household.
