Whoever escapes from the sword of Hazael, Jehu shall kill, and whoever escapes from the sword of Jehu, Elisha shall kill.


At that time King Hazael of Aram went up, fought against Gath, and took it. But when Hazael set his face to go up against Jerusalem,


King Jehoash of Judah took all the votive gifts that Jehoshaphat, Jehoram, and Ahaziah, his ancestors, the kings of Judah, had dedicated, as well as his own votive gifts, all the gold that was found in the treasuries of the house of the Lord and of the king’s house, and sent these to King Hazael of Aram. Then Hazael withdrew from Jerusalem.


Now King Hazael of Aram oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.


The anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, so he gave them repeatedly into the hand of King Hazael of Aram, then into the hand of Ben-hadad son of Hazael.


So Jehoahaz was left with an army of not more than fifty horsemen, ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen, for the king of Aram had destroyed them and made them like the dust at threshing.


At that time Menahem sacked Tiphsah, all who were in it and its territory from Tirzah on; because they did not open it to him, he sacked it. He ripped open all the pregnant women in it.


Then she said, “Did I ask my lord for a son? Did I not say, ‘Do not mislead me?’ ”


Their infants will be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses will be plundered and their wives raped.


Their bows will slaughter the young men; they will have no mercy on the fruit of the womb; their eyes will not pity children.


therefore the tumult of war shall rise against your people, and all your fortresses shall be destroyed, as Shalman destroyed Beth-arbel on the day of battle, when mothers were dashed in pieces with their children.


Samaria shall bear her guilt because she has rebelled against her God; they shall fall by the sword; their little ones shall be dashed in pieces, and their pregnant women ripped open.


Return, O Israel, to the Lord your God, for you have stumbled because of your iniquity.


Thus says the Lord: For three transgressions of the Ammonites, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because they have ripped open pregnant women in Gilead in order to enlarge their territory.


Yet she became an exile; she went into captivity; even her infants were dashed in pieces at the head of every street; lots were cast for her nobles; all her dignitaries were bound in fetters.
