For we alsooncewere foolishourselves,disobedient,deceived,enslavedto variouslustsand pleasures,spending our lifein maliceand envy,hateful,hatingone another.
Onanknewthat the offspringwould not be his; so whenhe wentin to his brother'swife,he wastedhis seed on the groundin order not to giveoffspringto his brother.
So she lefthis garmentbesideher untilhis mastercamehome.
For it flattershim in his [own] eyesConcerning the discoveryof his iniquity[and] the hatred[of it].
"O naiveones,understandprudence;And, O fools,understandwisdom.
"Forsake[your] follyand live,And proceedin the wayof understanding."
He feedson ashes;a deceivedhearthas turnedhim aside.And he cannotdeliverhimself,norsay,"Is there not a liein my righthand?"
"The arroganceof your hearthas deceivedyou, You who livein the cleftsof the rock,In the loftinessof your dwellingplace,Who sayin your heart,Whowill bringme downto earth?'
"And he answered,'I will not'; but afterwardhe regrettedit and went.
And He said,"Seeto it that you are not misled;for manywill comein My name,saying,I am[He],' and, 'The timeis near.'Do not goafterthem.
Jesusansweredthem, "Truly,truly,I sayto you, everyonewho commitssinis the slaveof sin.
For justas you oncewere disobedientto God,but nowhave been shown mercybecause of their disobedience,
Thereforedo not let sinreignin your mortalbodysothat you obeyits lusts,
But thanksbe to Godthat though you were slavesof sin,you became obedientfrom the heartto that formof teachingto whichyou were committed,
But nowhaving been freedfrom sinand enslavedto God,you deriveyour benefit,resultingin sanctification,and the outcome,eternallife.
knowingthis,that our oldselfwas crucifiedwith [Him], in orderthat our bodyof sinmight be done awaywith, so that we would no longerbe slavesto sin;
For I am afraidthat perhapswhen I comeI may findyou to be not whatI wishand may be foundby you to be not whatyou wish;that perhaps[there will be] strife,jealousy,angry tempers,disputes,slanders,gossip,arrogance,disturbances;
For ifanyonethinkshe is somethingwhen he is nothing,he deceiveshimself.
And although you were formerlyalienatedand hostilein mind,[engaged] in evildeeds,
and in them you alsooncewalked,whenyou were livingin them.
But evilmenand impostorswill proceed[from bad] to worse,deceivingand being deceived.
For amongthem are thosewho enterinto householdsand captivateweak womenweighed downwith sins,ledon by variousimpulses,
They professto knowGod,but by [their] deedsthey deny[Him], beingdetestableand disobedientand worthlessfor anygooddeed.
instructingus to denyungodlinessand worldlydesiresand to livesensibly,righteouslyand godlyin the presentage,
Ifanyonethinkshimself to be religious,and yet does not bridlehis tonguebut deceiveshis [own] heart,this man'sreligionis worthless.
As obedientchildren,do not be conformedto the formerlusts[which were yours] in your ignorance,
And the greatdragonwas throwndown, the serpentof oldwho is calledthe deviland Satan,who deceivesthe wholeworld;he was throwndown to the earth,and his angelswere throwndown with him.
And he deceivesthosewho dwellon the earthbecauseof the signswhichit was givenhim to performin the presenceof the beast,tellingthosewho dwellon the earthto makean imageto the beastwhohadthe woundof the swordand has come to life.
And he criedout with a mightyvoice,saying,"Fallen,fallenis Babylonthe great!She has becomea dwelling placeof demonsand a prisonof everyuncleanspirit,and a prisonof everyuncleanand hatefulbird.
