And servedtheir idols,Which becamea snareto them.
Now [this] cameabout becausethe sonsof Israelhad sinnedagainst the LORDtheir God,who had broughtthem up from the landof Egyptfrom underthe handof Pharaoh, kingof Egypt, and they had fearedothergods
For they provokedHim with their highplacesAnd aroused His jealousywith their gravenimages.
"They shall not livein your land, becausethey will make you sinagainst Me; for [if] you servetheir gods,it will surelybe a snareto you."
"Then [men] will say,Becausethey forsookthe covenantof the LORD,the Godof their fathers, whichHe madewith them when He broughtthem out of the landof Egypt.
"You shall consumeallthe peopleswhomthe LORDyour Godwill deliverto you; your eyeshall not pitythem, norshall you servetheir gods, for that [would be] a snareto you.
knowwith certaintythat the LORDyour Godwill not continueto drivethesenationsout from beforeyou; but they will be a snareand a trapto you, and a whipon your sidesand thornsin your eyes, untilyou perishfrom offthisgoodlandwhichthe LORDyour Godhas givenyou.
Then the sonsof Israelagaindidevilin the sightof the LORD,servedthe Baalsand the Ashtaroth, the godsof Aram, the godsof Sidon, the godsof Moab, the godsof the sonsof Ammon, and the godsof the Philistines;thus they forsookthe LORDand did not serveHim.
Yetthey did not listento their judges, for they playedthe harlotafterothergodsand bowedthemselves downto them. They turnedasidequicklyfrom the wayin whichtheir fathershad walkedin obeyingthe commandmentsof the LORD;they didnot doas [their fathers].
But it cameabout when the judgedied, that they would turnbackand actmorecorruptlythantheir fathers,in followingothergodsto servethem and bowdownto them; they did not abandontheir practicesor their stubbornways.
"Therefore I alsosaid,I will not drivethem out beforeyou; but they will become[as thorns] in your sidesand their godswill be a snareto you.'"
