A prudentmanconcealsknowledge,But the heartof foolsproclaimsfolly.
A trustworthywitnesswill not lie,But a false witnessutterslies.
A man'sdiscretionmakeshim slowto anger,And it is his gloryto overlooka transgression.
He who goesabout as a slandererrevealssecrets,Therefore do not associatewith a gossip.
Argueyour casewith your neighbor,And do not revealthe secretof another,
Then allthe officialscameto Jeremiahand questionedhim. So he reportedto them in accordance with allthesewordswhichthe kinghad commanded;and they ceasedspeakingwith him, sincethe conversationhad not been overheard.
You shall not goabout as a slandereramong your people,and you are not to actagainstthe lifeof your neighbor;I am the LORD.
At the same timethey alsolearn[to be] idle,as they go aroundfrom house to house;and not merelyidle,but alsogossipsand busybodies,talkingabout things not proper[to mention].
So the mensaidto her, "Our lifefor yours ifyou do not tellthisbusinessof ours; and it shall comeabout when the LORDgivesus the landthat we will dealkindlyand faithfullywith you."
"But ifyou tellthisbusinessof ours, then we shall be freefrom the oathwhichyou have made us swear."
