He who gathersin summeris a sonwho actswisely,[But] he who sleepsin harvestis a sonwho actsshamefully.
Thereis one who scatters,and [yet] increasesallthe more,And there is one who withholdswhatis justlydue,[and yet it results] onlyin want.
The handof the diligentwill rule,But the slack[hand] will be put to forcedlabor.
A lazymandoes not roasthis prey,But the preciouspossessionof a man[is] diligence.
The soulof the sluggardcravesand [gets] nothing,But the soulof the diligentis madefat.
He alsowho is slackin his workIs brotherto him who destroys.
Lazinesscastsinto a deepsleep,And an idlemanwill sufferhunger.
The sluggardburieshis handin the dish,[But] will not evenbringit backto his mouth.
Do not lovesleep,oryou will becomepoor;Openyour eyes,[and] you will be satisfiedwith food.
The sluggarddoes not plowafterthe autumn,So he begsduring the harvestand hasnothing.
The plansof the diligent[lead] surelyto advantage,But everyonewho is hasty[comes] surelyto poverty.
Through indolencethe rafterssag,and through slacknessthe houseleaks.
"Do not workfor the foodwhich perishes,but for the foodwhich enduresto eternallife,whichthe Sonof Manwill giveto you, for on Him the Father,God,has set His seal."
Therefore,my belovedbrethren,be steadfast,immovable,alwaysaboundingin the workof the Lord,knowingthat your toilis not [in] vainin the Lord.
