"Moreover, he shall standbeforeEleazarthe priest,who shall inquirefor him by the judgmentof the Urimbeforethe LORD.At his commandthey shall goout and at his commandthey shall comein, [both] he and the sonsof Israelwith him, even allthe congregation."
Now there was a faminein the daysof Davidfor threeyears,yearafteryear;and Davidsoughtthe presenceof the LORD.And the LORDsaid,"It is for Sauland his bloodyhouse,becausehe putthe Gibeonitesto death."
The governorsaidto them that they should not eatfrom the mostholythingsuntila prieststoodup with Urimand Thummim.

"You shall putin the breastpieceof judgmentthe Urimand the Thummim,and they shall be overAaron'sheartwhen he goesin beforethe LORD;and Aaronshall carrythe judgmentof the sonsof Israeloverhis heartbeforethe LORDcontinually.
He then placedthe breastpieceon him, and in the breastpiecehe putthe Urimand the Thummim.
"For the lipsof a priestshould preserveknowledge,and men should seekinstructionfrom his mouth;for he is the messengerof the LORDof hosts.
whowill goout and comein beforethem, and whowill leadthem out and bringthem in, so that the congregationof the LORDwill not be like sheepwhichhavenoshepherd."
They stoodbeforeMosesand beforeEleazarthe priestand beforethe leadersand allthe congregation,at the doorwayof the tentof meeting,saying,
"You shall putsomeof your authorityon him, in orderthat allthe congregationof the sonsof Israelmay obey[him].
Mosesdidjustas the LORDcommandedhim; and he tookJoshuaand sethim beforeEleazarthe priestand beforeallthe congregation.
So Mosesbroughttheir casebeforethe LORD.
"It is the LORDyour Godwho will crossaheadof you; He will destroythesenationsbeforeyou, and you shall dispossessthem. Joshuais the one who will crossaheadof you, justas the LORDhas spoken.
Of Levihe said,"[Let] Your Thummimand Your Urim[belong] to Your godlyman,WhomYou provedat Massah,With whom You contendedat the watersof Meribah;
So the men[of Israel] tooksomeof their provisions,and did not askfor the counselof the LORD.
Now it cameabout afterthe deathof Joshuathat the sonsof Israelinquiredof the LORD,saying,"Whoshall goup firstfor us againstthe Canaanites,to fightagainst them?"
Now the sonsof Israelarose,wentup to Bethel,and inquiredof Godand said,"Whoshall goup firstfor us to battleagainstthe sonsof Benjamin?"Then the LORDsaid,"Judah[shall go up] first."
The sonsof Israelwentup and weptbeforethe LORDuntilevening,and inquiredof the LORD,saying,"Shall we againdrawnearfor battleagainstthe sonsof my brotherBenjamin?"And the LORDsaid,"Goup againsthim."
WhileSaultalkedto the priest,the commotionin the campof the Philistinescontinuedand increased;so Saulsaidto the priest,"Withdrawyour hand."
Now Davidknewthat Saulwas plottingevilagainsthim; so he saidto Abiatharthe priest,"Bringthe ephodhere."
When Saulinquiredof the LORD,the LORDdid not answerhim, eitherby dreamsorby Urimorby prophets.
Then Davidsaidto Abiatharthe priest,the sonof Ahimelech,"Pleasebringme the ephod."So Abiatharbroughtthe ephodto David.
