He namedthe placeMassahand Meribahbecauseof the quarrelof the sonsof Israel,and becausethey testedthe LORD,saying,"Is the LORDamongus, ornot?"
So they wentup and spiedout the landfrom the wildernessof Zinas faras Rehob,at Lebo-hamath.
Then the sonsof Israel,the wholecongregation,cameto the wildernessof Zinin the firstmonth;and the peoplestayedat Kadesh.Now Miriamdiedthereand was buriedthere.
"Aaronwill be gatheredto his people;for he shall not enterthe landwhichI have givento the sonsof Israel,becauseyou rebelledagainstMy commandat the watersof Meribah.
"Whyhave you made us comeup from Egypt,to bringus in to thiswretchedplace?It is not a placeof grainor figsor vinesor pomegranates,noris therewaterto drink."
Then Mosesspoketo the LORD,saying,
"You men who are stiff-neckedand uncircumcisedin heartand earsare alwaysresistingthe HolySpirit;you are doing justas your fathersdid.
"The LORDwas angrywith me alsoon your account,saying,Not evenyou shall enterthere.
"For I will diein thisland,I shall not crossthe Jordan,but you shall crossand takepossessionof thisgoodland.
