Then Balaksaidto him, "Pleasecomewith me to anotherplacefrom whereyou may seethem, although you will onlyseethe extremeendof them and will not seeallof them; and cursethem for me from there."
Now the servantsof the kingof Aramsaidto him, "Their godsare godsof the mountains,thereforethey were strongerthanwe; but ratherlet us fightagainstthem in the plain,[and] surelywe will be strongerthanthey.
Then a manof Godcamenearand spoketo the kingof Israeland said,"Thussaysthe LORD,'Becausethe Arameanshave said,"The LORDis a godof [the] mountains,but He is not a godof [the] valleys,"therefore I will giveallthisgreatmultitudeinto your hand,and you shall knowthat I am the LORD.'"
He also lovedcursing,so it cameto him; And he did not delightin blessing,so it was farfrom him.
"My people,remembernowWhatBalakkingof MoabcounseledAnd whatBalaamsonof Beoransweredhim, [And] from Shittimto Gilgal,Sothat you might knowthe righteousactsof the LORD."
Then it cameabout in the morningthat BalaktookBalaamand broughthim up to the highplacesof Baal,and he sawfrom therea portionof the people.
"Now,therefore, pleasecome,cursethispeoplefor me sincethey are toomightyfor me; perhapsI may be ableto defeatthem and drivethem out of the land.For I knowthat he whomyou blessis blessed,and he whomyou curseis cursed."
He replied,"Must I not be carefulto speakwhatthe LORDputsin my mouth?"
So he tookhim to the fieldof Zophim,to the topof Pisgah,and builtsevenaltarsand offereda bulland a ramon [each] altar.
Then Balakthe sonof Zippor,kingof Moab,aroseand foughtagainst Israel,and he sentand summonedBalaamthe sonof Beorto curseyou.
