"They have gapedat me with their mouth,They have slappedme on the cheekwith contempt;They have massedthemselves againstme.
Do not say,"I will repayevil";Waitfor the LORD,and He will saveyou.
Donot say,"ThusI shall doto him as he has doneto me; I will renderto the manaccording to his work."
I gaveMy backto those who strike[Me], And My cheeksto those who pluckout the beard;I did not coverMy facefrom humiliationand spitting.
Let him givehis cheekto the smiter,Let him be filledwith reproach.
You shall not takevengeance,norbearany grudgeagainstthe sonsof your people,but you shall loveyour neighboras yourself; I am the LORD.
"Nowmusteryourselves in troops,daughterof troops;They have laidsiegeagainstus; With a rodthey will smitethe judgeof Israelon the cheek.
"If anyone wantsto sueyou and takeyour shirt,let him haveyour coatalso.
and they blindfoldedHim and were askingHim, saying,"Prophesy,whois the one who hitYou?"
The scribesand the Phariseeswere watching Him closely[to see] ifHe healedon the Sabbath,sothat they might find[reason] to accuseHim.
Jesusansweredhim, "IfI have spokenwrongly,testifyof the wrong;but ifrightly,whydo you strikeMe?"
Actually,then,it is alreadya defeatfor you, that you havelawsuitswith one another.Whynot ratherbe wronged?Whynot ratherbe defrauded?
Seethat noonerepaysanotherwith evilfor evil,but alwaysseek afterthat which is goodfor one anotherand for all people.
You have not yetresistedto the pointof shedding bloodin your strivingagainstsin;
You have condemnedand put to deaththe righteous[man]; he does not resistyou.
not returningevilfor evilorinsultfor insult,but giving a blessinginstead;for you were calledfor the verypurpose that you might inherita blessing.
