As thesemen were going[away], Jesusbeganto speakto the crowdsaboutJohn,"Whatdid you goout into the wildernessto see?A reedshakenby the wind?
"Uncontrolledas water,you shall not havepreeminence,Becauseyou wentup to your father'sbed;Thenyou defiled[it]-- he wentup to my couch.
"But whatdid you goout to see?A mandressedin soft[clothing]? Thosewho wearsoft[clothing] are in kings'palaces!
"A BATTEREDREEDHE WILL NOT BREAKOFF, AND A SMOLDERINGWICKHE WILL NOT PUTOUT, UNTILHE LEADSJUSTICETO VICTORY.
"The baptismof Johnwas from what[source], from heavenorfrom men?"And they [began] reasoningamongthemselves,saying,"Ifwe say,'From heaven,'He will sayto us, 'Thenwhydid you not believehim?'
ThenJerusalemwas goingout to him, and allJudeaand allthe district aroundthe Jordan;
"Sotake carehowyou listen;for whoeverhas,to him [more] shall be given;and whoeverdoes not have,evenwhathe thinkshe hasshall be taken awayfrom him."
And Jesusturnedand sawthem following,and saidto them, "Whatdo you seek?"They saidto Him, "Rabbi(whichtranslatedmeansTeacher),whereare You staying?"
"He was the lampthat was burningand was shiningand you were willingto rejoicefor a whilein his light.
As a result,we are no longerto be children,tossed here and there by wavesand carried aboutby everywindof doctrine,by the trickeryof men,by craftinessin deceitfulscheming;
But he must askin faithwithout anydoubting,for the one who doubtsis likethe surfof the sea,drivenand tossed by the wind.
