He was despisedand forsakenof men,A manof sorrowsand acquaintedwith grief;And like one from whom men hidetheir faceHe was despised,and we did not esteemHim.
"He will reviveus aftertwo days;He will raiseus up on the thirdday,That we may livebeforeHim.
From that timeJesusbeganto showHis disciplesthat He mustgoto Jerusalem,and suffermany thingsfrom the eldersand chief priestsand scribes,and be killed,and be raisedup on the thirdday.
Thenthey spatin His faceand beat Him with their fists;and othersslappedHim,
and said,"Sir,we rememberthat when He was stillalivethat deceiversaid,AfterthreedaysI [am to] rise again.'
Tearinghis clothes,the high priestsaid,"Whatfurtherneeddo we haveof witnesses?
Somebeganto spitat Him, and to blindfoldHim, and to beat Him with their fists,and to sayto Him, "Prophesy!"And the officersreceivedHim with slaps[in the face].
For He was teachingHis disciplesand tellingthem, "The Sonof Manis to be deliveredinto the handsof men,and they will killHim; and when He has been killed,He will risethreedayslater."
And Herodwith his soldiers,after treating Him with contemptand mockingHim, dressedHim in a gorgeousrobeand sent Him backto Pilate.
For the Lawwas giventhroughMoses;graceand truthwere realizedthroughJesusChrist.
and saidto him, "Everymanservesthe goodwinefirst,and when[the people] have drunk freely,[then he serves] the poorer[wine]; [but] you have keptthe goodwineuntilnow."
and that He was buried,and that He was raisedon the thirddayaccordingto the Scriptures,
