When allthe peopleand the tax collectorsheard[this], they acknowledgedGod'sjustice,having been baptizedwith the baptismof John.
Against You, You only,I have sinnedAnd donewhatis evilin Your sight,Sothat You are justifiedwhen You speakAnd blamelesswhen You judge.
"For ifyou lovethosewho loveyou, whatrewarddoyou have?Do not eventhe tax collectorsdothe same?
"But ifwe say,'From men,'allthe peoplewill stone us to death,for they are convincedthat Johnwas a prophet."
And [some] tax collectorsalsocameto be baptized,and they saidto him, "Teacher,whatshall we do?"
"I sayto you, amongthose bornof womenthere is no onegreaterthan John;yethe who is leastin the kingdomof Godis greaterthan he."
"Yetwisdomis vindicatedby allher children."
This manhad beeninstructedin the wayof the Lord;and being ferventin spirit,he was speakingand teachingaccuratelythe things concerningJesus,being acquaintedonlywith the baptismof John;
And he said,"Into whatthenwere you baptized?"And they said,"Into John'sbaptism."
For not knowingabout God'srighteousnessand seekingto establishtheir own,they did not subjectthemselves to the righteousnessof God.
And they sangthe songof Moses,the bond-servantof God,and the songof the Lamb,saying,"Greatand marvelousare Your works,O LordGod,the Almighty;Righteousand true are Your ways,Kingof the nations!
And I heardthe angelof the waterssaying,"Righteousare You, who are and whowere, O Holy One,becauseYou judgedthese things;
Adoni-bezeksaid,"Seventykingswith their thumbsand their bigtoescutoffused to gatherup [scraps] undermy table;as I have done,soGodhas repaidme." So they broughthim to Jerusalemand he diedthere.
