He was despisedand forsakenof men,A manof sorrowsand acquaintedwith grief;And like one from whom men hidetheir faceHe was despised,and we did not esteemHim.
At that timeHerodthe tetrarchheardthe newsabout Jesus,
For when Herodhad Johnarrested,he boundhim and puthim in prisonbecauseof Herodias,the wifeof his brotherPhilip.
But when Herod'sbirthdaycame,the daughterof Herodiasdancedbefore[them] and pleasedHerod,
And He saidto them, "Elijahdoes firstcomeand restoreall things.And [yet] howis it writtenof the Sonof Manthat He will suffermany thingsand be treated with contempt?
And the chief priestsand the scribeswere standingthere, accusingHim vehemently.
Jesusthencameout, wearingthe crownof thornsand the purplerobe.[Pilate] saidto them, "Behold,the Man!"
For ifa mancomesinto your assemblywith a gold ringand dressed in fineclothes,and there alsocomesin a poor manin dirtyclothes,
and you pay special attentionto the one who is wearingthe fineclothes,and say,"You sitherein a goodplace," and you sayto the poor man,"You standover there,orsit downby my footstool,"
