You shall not goabout as a slandereramong your people,and you are not to actagainstthe lifeof your neighbor;I am the LORD.
"He who informsagainst friendsfor a share[of the spoil], The eyesof his childrenalso will languish.
Whoever secretlyslandershis neighbor,him I will destroy;Noone who has a haughtylookand an arrogantheartwill I endure.
He does not slanderwith his tongue,Nordoesevilto his neighbor,Nortakesup a reproachagainsthis friend;
"You sitand speakagainst your brother;You slanderyour own mother'sson.
"You shall not bearfalse~witnessagainst your neighbor.
"You shall not beara false report;do not joinyour handwith a wickedmanto be a maliciouswitness.
"Keepfarfrom a false charge,and do not killthe innocentor the righteous,for I will not acquitthe guilty.
He who concealshatred[has] lyinglips,And he who spreadsslanderis a fool.
He who goesabout as a talebearerrevealssecrets,But he who is trustworthyconcealsa matter.
He who goesabout as a slandererrevealssecrets,Therefore do not associatewith a gossip.
Allof them are stubbornlyrebellious,Goingabout as a talebearer.[They are] bronzeand iron;They, allof them, are corrupt.
"Let everyonebe on guardagainsthis neighbor,And do not trustanybrother;Becauseeverybrotherdealscraftily,And everyneighborgoesabout as a slanderer.
"Slanderousmenhave beenin you for the purposeof sheddingblood,and in you they have eatenat the mountain[shrines]. In your midstthey have committedactsof lewdness.
saying,"I have sinnedby betrayinginnocentblood."But they said,"Whatis that to us? See[to that] yourself!"
Cursedis he who acceptsa bribeto strikedownan innocentperson.'And allthe peopleshall say,'Amen.'
Women[must] likewise[be] dignified,not malicious gossips,but temperate,faithfulin all things.
unloving,irreconcilable,malicious gossips,without self-control,brutal,haters of good,
Older womenlikewiseare to be reverentin their behavior,not malicious gossipsnorenslavedto muchwine,teaching what is good,
Therefore,putting asideallmaliceand alldeceitand hypocrisyand envyand allslander,
"Behold,thisdayyour eyeshave seenthat the LORDhad givenyou todayinto my handin the cave,and some saidto killyou, but [my eye] had pityon you; and I said,'I will not stretchout my handagainst my lord,for he is the LORD'Sanointed.'
