So Delilahsaidto Samson,"Pleasetellme whereyour greatstrengthis and howyou may be boundto afflictyou."
They sent[messages] to me fourtimesin thismanner,and I answeredthem in the sameway.
They speakfalsehoodto oneanother;With flatteringlipsand with a doubleheartthey speak.
The mouthof an adulteressis a deeppit;He who is cursedof the LORDwill fallinto it.
A lyingtonguehatesthose it crushes,And a flatteringmouthworksruin.
For on accountof a harlot[one is reduced] to a loafof bread,And an adulteresshuntsfor the preciouslife.
With her manypersuasionsshe enticeshim; With her flatteringlipsshe seduceshim.
The godlypersonhas perishedfrom the land,And thereis noupright[person] among men.Allof them liein waitfor bloodshed;Eachof them huntsthe otherwith a net.
Do not trustin a neighbor;Do not haveconfidencein a friend.From her who liesin your bosomGuardyour lips.
However she weptbeforehim sevendayswhiletheir feastlasted.And on the seventhdayhe toldher becauseshe pressedhim so hard.She then toldthe riddleto the sonsof her people.
The lordsof the Philistinescameup to her and saidto her, "Enticehim, and seewherehis greatstrength[lies] and howwe may overpowerhim that we may bindhim to afflicthim. Then we will eachgiveyou elevenhundred[pieces] of silver."
Samsonsaidto her, "Ifthey bindme with sevenfreshcordsthat have not been dried,then I will becomeweakand be like any[other] man."
