"Then it will be when you have seizedthe city,that you shall setthe cityon fire.You shall do[it] according to the wordof the LORD.See,I have commandedyou."
Absalomcommandedhis servants,saying,"Seenow,when Amnon'sheartis merrywith wine,and when I sayto you, 'StrikeAmnon,'then puthim to death.Do not fear;have not I myselfcommandedyou? Be courageousand be valiant."
"Onlyin the citiesof thesepeoplesthat the LORDyour Godis givingyou as an inheritance,you shall not leavealiveanythingthat breathes.
They answeredJoshua,saying,"Allthat you have commandedus we will do,and whereveryou sendus we will go.
"Have I not commandedyou? Be strongand courageous!Do not trembleor be dismayed,for the LORDyour Godis with you whereveryou go."
They burnedthe citywith fire,and allthat was in it. Onlythe silverand gold,and articlesof bronzeand iron,they putinto the treasuryof the houseof the LORD.
So they stationedthe people,allthe armythat was on the northsideof the city,and its rearguardon the westsideof the city,and Joshuaspentthat nightin the midstof the valley.
"You shall doto Aiand its kingjustas you didto Jerichoand its king;you shall takeonlyits spoiland its cattleas plunderfor yourselves. Setan ambushfor the citybehindit."
The otherscameout from the cityto encounterthem, so that they were [trapped] in the midstof Israel,someon thissideand someon that side;and they slewthem untilnoone was leftof those whosurvivedor escaped.
So JoshuaburnedAiand madeit a heapforever,a desolationuntilthisday.
"And you shall risefrom [your] ambushand takepossessionof the city,for the LORDyour Godwill deliverit into your hand.
So Joshuasentthem away,and they wentto the place of ambushand remainedbetweenBetheland Ai,on the westsideof Ai;but Joshuaspentthat nightamongthe people.
Now she sentand summonedBarakthe sonof Abinoamfrom Kedesh-naphtali,and saidto him, "Behold,the LORD,the Godof Israel,has commanded,'Goand marchto MountTabor,and takewith you tenthousandmenfrom the sonsof Naphtaliand from the sonsof Zebulun.
