"Let thisbe a signamongyou, so that when your childrenasklater,saying,'Whatdo thesestonesmean to you?'
O God,we have heardwith our ears,Our fathershave toldus The workthat You didin their days,In the daysof old.
And evenwhen[I am] oldand gray,O God,do not forsakeme, UntilI declareYour strengthto [this] generation,Your powerto allwho are to come.
Now thisdaywill be a memorialto you, and you shall celebrateit [as] a feastto the LORD;throughout your generationsyou are to celebrateit [as] a permanentordinance.
"And it shall be whenyour sonasksyou in timeto come,saying,'Whatis this?'then you shall sayto him, 'With a powerfulhandthe LORDbroughtus out of Egypt,from the houseof slavery.
"And it shall serveas a signto you on your hand,and as a reminderon your forehead,that the lawof the LORDmay be in your mouth;for with a powerfulhandthe LORDbroughtyou out of Egypt.
"But as for you, speakto the sonsof Israel,saying,You shall surelyobserveMy sabbaths;for [this] is a signbetweenMe and you throughout your generations,that you may knowthat I am the LORDwho sanctifiesyou.
"It is the livingwho givethanksto You, as I do today;A fathertellshis sonsaboutYour faithfulness.
"Insteadof the thornbushthe cypresswill comeup, And insteadof the nettlethe myrtlewill comeup, And it will be a memorialto the LORD,For an everlastingsignwhich will not be cutoff."
"AlsoI gavethem My sabbathsto be a signbetweenMe and them, that they might knowthat I am the LORDwho sanctifiesthem.
SanctifyMy sabbaths;and they shall be a signbetweenMe and you, that you may knowthat I am the LORDyour God.'
"As for the censersof thesemenwhohave sinnedat the cost of their lives,let them be madeinto hammeredsheetsfor a platingof the altar,sincethey did presentthem beforethe LORDand they are holy;and they shall be for a signto the sonsof Israel."
"For the promiseis for you and your childrenand for allwhoare far off,as manyas the Lordour Godwill callto Himself."
"You shall teachthem to your sons,talkingof them when you sitin your houseand when you walkalong the roadand when you liedownand when you riseup.
ratherit shall be a witnessbetweenus and you and betweenour generationsafterus, that we are to performthe serviceof the LORDbeforeHim with our burntofferings,and with our sacrificesand with our peaceofferings,sothat your sonswill not sayto our sonsin timeto come,"You havenoportionin the LORD."'
He saidto the sonsof Israel,"Whenyour childrenasktheir fathersin timeto come,saying,'Whatare thesestones?'
and Joshuasaidto them, "Crossagainto the arkof the LORDyour Godinto the middleof the Jordan,and eachof you takeup a stoneon his shoulder,according to the numberof the tribesof the sonsof Israel.
