"Our fathersworshipedin thismountain,and you [people] saythat in Jerusalemis the placewheremen oughtto worship."
The LORDsaidto him, "I have heardyour prayerand your supplication,whichyou have madebeforeMe; I have consecratedthishousewhichyou have builtby puttingMy namethereforever,and My eyesand My heartwill be thereperpetually.
Then Davidbuiltan altarto the LORDthereand offeredburntofferingsand peaceofferings.And he calledto the LORDand He answeredhim with firefrom heavenon the altarof burntoffering.
Then Davidsaid,"Thisis the houseof the LORDGod,and thisis the altarof burntofferingfor Israel."
but I have chosenJerusalemthat My namemight be there,and I have chosenDavidto be overMy peopleIsrael.'
Then the LORDappearedto Solomonat nightand saidto him, "I have heardyour prayerand have chosenthisplacefor Myself as a houseof sacrifice.
"For nowI have chosenand consecratedthishousethat My namemay be thereforever,and My eyesand My heartwill be thereperpetually.
For the LORDhas chosenZion;He has desiredit for His habitation.
But chosethe tribeof Judah,MountZionwhichHe loved.
Thussaysthe LORD,"Heavenis My throneand the earthis My footstool.Wherethenis a houseyou could buildfor Me? And whereis a placethat I may rest?
But they did not receiveHim, becauseHe was travelingtowardJerusalem.
"You are not greaterthan our fatherJacob,are You, whogaveus the well,and drankof it himselfand his sonsand his cattle?"
"It shall comeabout, whenthe LORDyour Godbringsyou into the landwhereyou are enteringto possessit, that you shall placethe blessingon MountGerizimand the curseon MountEbal.
"When you crossthe Jordan,theseshall standon MountGerizimto blessthe people:Simeon,Levi,Judah,Issachar,Joseph,and Benjamin.
