"It shall comeabout whenthey say,'Whyhas the LORDour Goddoneallthesethingsto us?' then you shall sayto them, 'As you have forsakenMe and servedforeigngodsin your land,soyou will servestrangersin a landthat is not yours.'
"Ifyou sayin your heart,Whyhave thesethingshappenedto me?' Because of the magnitudeof your iniquityYour skirtshave been removedAnd your heelshave been exposed.
So I will hurlyou out of thislandinto the landwhichyou have not known,neither you noryour fathers;and thereyou will serveothergodsdayand night,for I will grantyou nofavor.'
And you will, even of yourself, letgoof your inheritanceThat I gaveyou; And I will make you serveyour enemiesIn the landwhichyou do not know;For you have kindleda firein My angerWhich will burnforever.
"For My peoplehave committedtwoevils:They have forsakenMe, The fountainof livingwaters,To hewfor themselves cisterns,BrokencisternsThat canholdnowater.
"Is Israela slave?Oris he a homebornservant? Whyhas he becomea prey?
Yet you said,'I am innocent;SurelyHis angeris turnedawayfrom me.' Behold,I will enterinto judgmentwith you Becauseyou say,'I have not sinned.'
"Yet evenin thosedays,"declaresthe LORD,"I will not makeyou a completedestruction.
"Declarethisin the houseof JacobAnd proclaimit in Judah,saying,
Whois the wisemanthat may understandthis?And [who is] he to whomthe mouthof the LORDhas spoken,that he may declareit? Whyis the landruined,laidwastelike a desert,sothat noonepassesthrough?
The LORDsaid,"Becausethey have forsakenMy lawwhichI setbeforethem, and have not obeyedMy voicenorwalkedaccording to it,
Slavesruleover us; Thereis nooneto deliverus from their hand.
