"And," [said the women], "whenwe were burningsacrificesto the queenof heavenand were pouringout drinkofferingsto her, was it withoutour husbandsthat we madefor her [sacrificial] cakesin her imageand pouredout drinkofferingsto her?"
When the womansawthat the treewas goodfor food,and that it was a delightto the eyes,and that the treewas desirableto make [one] wise,she tookfrom its fruitand ate;and she gavealsoto her husbandwith her, and he ate.
Surelythere was noone like Ahabwhosoldhimself to doevilin the sightof the LORD,becauseJezebelhis wifeincitedhim.
He walkedin the wayof the kingsof Israel,justas the houseof Ahabdid(for Ahab'sdaughterwas his wife),and he didevilin the sightof the LORD.
Assuredly,the evilmanwill not gounpunished,But the descendantsof the righteouswill be delivered.
Then allthe menwho were awarethat their wiveswere burningsacrificesto othergods,along with allthe womenwho were standingby, [as] a largeassembly,including allthe peoplewho were livingin Pathrosin the landof Egypt,respondedto Jeremiah,saying,
Then Jeremiahsaidto allthe people,to the menand women--even to allthe peoplewho were givinghim [such] an answer--saying,
"The childrengatherwood,and the fatherskindlethe fire,and the womenkneaddoughto makecakesfor the queenof heaven;and [they] pourout drinkofferingsto othergodsin orderto spiteMe.
"But ifher husbandindeedannulsthem on the dayhe hears[them], then whateverproceedsout of her lipsconcerning her vowsor concerning the obligationof herselfshall not stand;her husbandhas annulledthem, and the LORDwill forgiveher.
"But ifon the dayher husbandhears[of it], he forbidsher, then he shall annulher vowwhichshe is underand the rashstatementof her lipsby whichshe has boundherself;and the LORDwill forgiveher.
