Then Ishmaeltookcaptiveallthe remnantof the peoplewhowere in Mizpah,the king'sdaughtersand allthe peoplewho were leftin Mizpah,whomNebuzaradanthe captainof the bodyguardhad putunderthe chargeof Gedaliahthe sonof Ahikam;thus Ishmaelthe sonof Nethaniahtookthem captiveand proceededto crossoverto the sonsof Ammon.
When Sanballatthe Horoniteand Tobiahthe Ammoniteofficialheard[about it], it was verydispleasingto them that someonehad cometo seekthe welfareof the sonsof Israel.
But when Sanballatthe Horoniteand Tobiahthe Ammoniteofficial,and Geshemthe Arabheard[it], they mockedus and despisedus and said,"Whatis thisthingyou are doing?Are you rebellingagainstthe king?"
"Thussaysthe LORD,'Writethismandownchildless,A manwho will not prosperin his days;For nomanof his descendantswill prosperSittingon the throneof DavidOr rulingagainin Judah.'"
They will also bringout allyour wivesand your sonsto the Chaldeans,and you yourselfwill not escapefrom their hand,but will be seizedby the handof the kingof Babylon,and thiscitywill be burnedwith fire.'"
Then the kingof Babylonslewthe sonsof Zedekiahbefore his eyesat Riblah;the kingof Babylonalso slewallthe noblesof Judah.
and saidto him, "Are you wellawarethat Baalisthe kingof the sonsof Ammonhas sentIshmaelthe sonof Nethaniahto takeyour life?"But Gedaliahthe sonof Ahikamdid not believethem.
Now allthe commandersof the forcesthat were in the field,they and their men,heardthat the kingof Babylonhad appointedGedaliahthe sonof Ahikamover the landand that he had puthim in chargeof the men,womenand children,those of the poorestof the landwhohad not been exiledto Babylon.
