The wordwhichcameto Jeremiahfrom the LORDafterNebuzaradancaptainof the bodyguardhad releasedhim from Ramah,when he had takenhim boundin chainsamongallthe exilesof Jerusalemand Judahwho were being exiledto Babylon.
Meanwhile, the Midianitessoldhim in Egyptto Potiphar,Pharaoh'sofficer,the captainof the bodyguard.
Nebuzaradanthe captainof the guardtookthem and broughtthem to the kingof Babylonat Riblah.
For thussaysthe LORD,"Behold,I am slingingout the inhabitantsof the landAt thistime,And will causethem distress,That they may be found."
Then the restof the peoplewho were leftin the cityand the deserterswhohad desertedto the kingof Babylonand the restof the people,Nebuzaradanthe captainof the guardcarriedawayinto exile.
So I will hurlyou out of thislandinto the landwhichyou have not known,neither you noryour fathers;and thereyou will serveothergodsdayand night,for I will grantyou nofavor.'
ThereforeMy peoplegointo exilefor their lackof knowledge;And their honorablemenare famished,And their multitudeis parchedwith thirst.
Someof your sonswhoshall issuefrom you, whomyou will beget,will be takenaway; and they will becomeofficialsin the palaceof the kingof Babylon.'"
"The LORDwill scatteryou among the peoples,and you will be leftfewin numberamong the nationswherethe LORDdrivesyou.
You, however, I will scatteramong the nationsand will drawout a swordafteryou, as your landbecomesdesolateand your citiesbecomewaste.
But like the badfigswhichcannotbe eatendueto rottenness--indeed,thussaysthe LORD--soI will abandonZedekiahkingof Judahand his officials,and the remnantof Jerusalemwho remainin thislandand the ones who dwellin the landof Egypt.
Then KingZedekiahsaidto Jeremiah,"I dreadthe Jewswhohave goneoverto the Chaldeans,for they may giveme over into their handand they will abuseme."
Then the kingof Babylonstruckthem downand putthem to deathat Riblahin the landof Hamath.So Judahwas ledawayinto exilefrom its land.
Now allthe commandersof the forcesthat were in the field,they and their men,heardthat the kingof Babylonhad appointedGedaliahthe sonof Ahikamover the landand that he had puthim in chargeof the men,womenand children,those of the poorestof the landwhohad not been exiledto Babylon.
ThenDanielrepliedwith discretionand discernmentto Arioch,the captainof the king'sbodyguard,whohad goneforthto slaythe wisemenof Babylon;
